Graded Interlayer in the Joining of MoSi2 to 316L Stainless Steel

Abstract
Using spark plasma sintering(SPS) techniques,the joining of MoSi2 to 316L stainless steel was performed with the MoSi2 /316L stainless steel graded material as the interlayer system.The microstructure of each layer and interlayer was investigated.The matching of the CTEs of MoSi2 and graded interlayer material can shielde the low-toughness MoSi2 from residual stresses formed during cooling from the joint-processing temperature (1 200 ℃).Dense,uniform joints are obtained with nine layers of MoSi2 /316L stainless steel graded material interlayer system.MoSi2 /316L stainless steel graded interlayer has obvious macroscopic gradient,while its component is changed continuously and the component of each layer is distributed evenly.
