Preparation of ZrO2 Modified Layer on 420 Stainless Steel Surface by Double Glow Plasma

Abstract
A modified layer of ZrO2 was fabricated on the surface of 420 stainless steel after permeating Zr by double glow plasma. The microstructure of the modified layer was analyzed by means of OM and XRD, the high temperature oxidation resistance and wear resistance were also tested. The results show that a typical ZrO2 modified layer formed by permeating Zr at 950 ℃ for 3 h was obtained after oxidation at 1 000 ℃ for 100 h. The modified layer bonded to the substrate tightly, and the high temperature oxidation resistance and wear resistance were improved obviously.
